The Great Outdoors Comedy Festival runs July 16 to 18, 2027 on the open field in front of the Lyric Theatre in Assiniboine Park. It is a ticketed, adults-only festival held inside a public park, and that combination produces a specific set of rules about chairs, bags, identification and parking. The questions below are the ones that decide whether your evening starts at the gate or stalls there.

When is the 2027 festival, and is the date firm?

The festival's Winnipeg page lists July 16 to 18, 2027, a Friday through Sunday, and its official ticket listing carries the same opening date. A separate page on the festival's own site shows a different Winnipeg window, which is the sort of thing that happens when a touring festival publishes a dozen cities at once, so confirm before you book travel around it. The 2026 edition ran July 17 to 19. The shape stays the same from year to year: an evening show on each of the three nights, with afternoon shows added on the Saturday and the Sunday.

Where in Assiniboine Park do the shows happen, and how late do they run?

The park's address is 2355 Corydon Avenue, and the festival fences off the Lyric Theatre field, the stretch of open grass in front of the park's outdoor stage near The Pavilion at 55 Pavilion Crescent. The layout inside is closer to a cabaret than a concert, with the stage at one end and a seated field in front of it.

In 2026 the Friday evening show opened its VIP and GA+ gates at 5:30, general admission at 6:30, started at 7:30 and had an eleven o'clock curfew. The afternoon shows followed the same pattern an hour either side of noon. Read those as the shape of a day rather than as 2027's clock, since gate and set times are published per show. Mid-July sunset in Winnipeg falls around half past nine, so an evening show opens in full daylight and finishes in the dark, and the field loses its warmth as soon as the sun is off it. The festival goes ahead rain or shine, and there is no re-entry once you have been through the gate.

Who performs, and when is the lineup announced?

No 2027 names had been posted. Tickets for the 2026 Winnipeg weekend went on sale in April of that year, which is roughly when the bill becomes public. That weekend carried Jim Gaffigan, Aziz Ansari, Pete Davidson and Matt Rife, with John Crist, Ryan Hamilton, Jordan Jensen and Adam Ray among the other sets; past Winnipeg editions have brought John Mulaney, Bill Burr and Martin Short. The festival describes its programming as a mix of touring headliners and up-and-coming local acts.

Each show is sold as its own ticket and a three-day pass is sold alongside them, online only, through the festival's ticketing partner. Every sale is final. Buying before the lineup is out is therefore a bet on the booking rather than on a name, which is worth knowing before you treat an early ticket as a bargain.

It is 18 and over: which ID gets you in?

The Manitoba edition admits nobody under 18, afternoon shows included, and everyone is carded. What works is an unexpired government photo identification showing your date of birth: a driver's licence, a provincial or state ID card, or a passport. What does not work, and this is where people get turned around at the gate with a ticket in hand, is a school card, a consular card, a birth certificate, or a licence that expired last month. Bags and people are searched on the way in, and security can refuse an item or a person without a refund.

What will the gate take off you?

Chairs are allowed, but the specification is narrow. A chair has to fold, seat one person, and have no recline, no protruding leg rest and no covering over it. Anything outside that is turned away rather than held for you, so the beach lounger in the trunk is a wasted carry. A blanket or tarp can run up to six feet by six. A limited number of chairs can be rented on site for general admission while stock lasts, and VIP table and VIP Club tickets come with seating already.

For bags, soft-sided backpacks and collapsible soft-sided wagons are both fine. Leave behind the hard-sided cooler, anything glass, and every drink except a sealed bottle of water up to a litre. Signs, flags, tents, cameras, drones and balls are all refused. An umbrella is allowed only under 42 inches, which rules out the patio umbrella and keeps the folding one.

How do you get to the Lyric field without a car?

The park would rather you did not drive, and the arrangements say so. Parking inside is very limited on show days, costs twenty dollars a vehicle, and is paid by credit or debit through the HonkMobile app rather than to anyone at a booth. Assiniboine Park Drive beside the Lyric field closes from three in the afternoon until midnight across all three days, and the park stops admitting incoming traffic no later than five. Attractions elsewhere in the park have closed early on festival days.

By bus, the D19 Corydon runs the length of Corydon Avenue to a stop at Corydon and Shaftesbury on the park's south side. Route 22 Portage stops at Portage and Overdale on the north side, where a pedestrian bridge crosses Portage Avenue into the park. Cash fare has been $3.45, or $3.10 with a peggo card, and holiday or late-evening service is worth looking up at winnipegtransit.com rather than assuming. There is also a free bike valet, on the southeast side of The Pavilion next to the parking lot, under a white tent. After a show that ends at eleven, a bicycle is the quickest way off the site.

Is the Winnipeg Design Festival the same weekend?

No. The two get bundled together in summer listings more often than they should. The Winnipeg Design Festival is Storefront Manitoba's annual public programme of talks, tours and installations about design and architecture in the province, and it belongs to September rather than July. The 2025 edition took the theme CONNECT and closed with a party during Nuit Blanche on September 27; the 2024 programme ran in late September with a hub in Room 201 at The Forks Market. Dates and the call for proposals go up at storefrontmb.ca in the spring. A July comedy trip and a design week are two separate visits.

Where should you stay for comedy festival weekend?

Our three-bedroom home is in Crescentwood, on the south side of the Assiniboine River. Assiniboine Park is thirteen minutes away by car, 8.4 km, and the D19 that serves the park runs along Corydon Avenue, about a ten-minute walk south of the front door. That geography matters more for this event than for most, because what you want after an eleven o'clock curfew is a short trip home rather than a drive across the city in the dark.

The dates also land inside a crowded fortnight. The Winnipeg Fringe Festival runs July 14 to 25 in 2027, so the Exchange District is full the same weekend the comedy festival is in the park. Rooms in the middle of the city go early for that stretch. Our Airbnb listing shows which dates are still open.

Before you go: Dates, gate times, set times and the rules at the gate are reset every year, and the 2027 lineup had not been announced. Confirm the show you want at greatoutdoorscomedyfestival.com before you buy.
