Winnipeg Snow Clearing Map: Real-Time Sidewalk & Pathway Updates
Wondering how quickly Winnipeg is clearing snow after a storm? The City of Winnipeg has made it easier to stay in the loop. In February 2026, the City announced that the snow operations map now uses automatic vehicle location (AVL) technology so that progress on individual sidewalks, pathways, and bike paths is updated every 15 minutes—instead of manual updates at the end of a 12-hour shift.
What Changed
Previously, staff entered clearing status for an entire area manually, typically once at the end of a shift. Now, AVL equipment on plows and sidewalk machines sends location data automatically. As soon as a sidewalk or pathway is cleared, that status is reflected on the map. You get a much faster, more accurate picture of where crews have been and what’s still in progress.
Tip: Check the snow operations map before reporting a missed clearing. If a road or path is still blue on the map, it means the City is still working on it. Reporting only after an area is marked complete helps 311 and Public Works use resources where they’re needed most.
How to Use the Snow Operations Map
The City’s snow operations map is the go-to resource for:
- Sidewalks – See which pedestrian routes have been cleared
- Pathways & bike paths – Check multi-use and cycling routes
- Streets – View road-clearing progress and winter route status
- Parking bans – See when and where the Annual Winter Route Parking Ban or other bans are in effect
You can switch between filters to view progress for pedestrians, cyclists, or motorists, so whether you’re walking in Crescentwood, biking to work, or driving, you can see what’s done and what’s still in progress.
More Ways to Stay Updated
Besides the map, you can:
- Download the Know Your Zone app – Find your snow zone during residential parking bans and get alerts.
- Contact 311 – Report missed clearing, ask questions, or get information in English or French.
- Sign up for email notifications – Get snow-clearing and parking ban updates by email.
- Follow the City on social media – Quick updates on major storms and city-wide clearing.
For guests: If you’re staying in Winnipeg during winter—including in Corydon or Crescentwood—bookmark the snow map and Know Your Zone so you know when your street is cleared and when parking bans apply. It makes winter walks and driving much less guesswork.
Why It Matters
Faster, more transparent updates mean you spend less time wondering whether your sidewalk or route is next. The City’s Manager of Streets Maintenance, Michael Cantor, noted that connecting AVL to the sidewalk and pathway map “removes an extra step of work and updates the public much faster.” For residents and visitors alike, that’s a real improvement in winter livability.
