Winnipeg's holiday market season starts in the middle of October and does not let up until the week before Christmas. Most of it happens indoors in three or four large halls, and the schedules overlap enough that visitors trying to hit everything end up driving between community centres all weekend. Here are six worth the trip, ranked by what we would tell a guest with one free Saturday.

1. Winnipeg Christmas Market, November 26 to 29

The one to pick if you pick one. It runs at the RBC Convention Centre, 375 York Avenue, downtown, with more than 140 Canadian artisans under one roof, plus food, drink and live music. Signatures Shows has run it since 1979, which shows in how the floor is laid out: wide aisles, a clear route, and enough food that you are not forced back out into the cold for lunch. Published hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and admission is charged at the door; check winnipegchristmasmarket.com for this year's price before you go.

2. Third + Bird Christmas Market, November 20 to 22

Ranked second only because it is smaller, not because it is worse. Third + Bird curates hard, and the 2026 edition lists more than 170 local makers, which is a different experience from a 140-table show: fewer duplicate booths, more first-time sellers. Hours run 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the Friday, 10 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The venue is confirmed on thirdandbird.com rather than here, because this market has moved buildings between years and we would rather send you to the source than to last year's address.

3. Scattered Seeds Craft Market, October 16 to 18 and 23 to 25

The season opener, and the largest by vendor count: over 300 Canadian makers across two weekends, roughly 150 each weekend, so going to both is not a repeat. It is at Exhibition Place in Red River Exhibition Park, 3977 Portage Avenue, entering at Gate 2 off Racetrack Road, which means driving. Its rank here is about timing rather than quality; in mid-October nobody is thinking about Christmas shopping yet, and that is exactly why the aisles are navigable and the good things are still on the tables.

4. Crafted Show and Sale, November 6 to 8

At the Winnipeg Art Gallery, which puts it in walking distance of everything else downtown and makes it the easiest of these to fold into a day that includes something other than shopping. It is a juried craft sale rather than a general market, so the price range starts higher and the work is closer to what you would hang or display than to stocking fillers. Three days only, early in November.

5. Christkindlmarkt at Fort Garry Place

The German Canadian Congress has run this one for close to four decades, and it is the only market on this list where the food is as much the point as the shopping. Its dates are the one thing here we cannot pin down: listings for 2026 disagree, one giving November 27 to 29 and another November 29 to December 1. Check christmasmarketwinnipeg.ca before you plan around it. Whichever weekend it lands on, go hungry.

6. Rise Above Handmade Holiday Market, November 23

A single day at the University of Manitoba, and the one on this list closest to a student-and-neighbours market: small, cheap, handmade, and over by late afternoon. It is last here because a one-day market is easy to miss and hard to build a weekend around. It is also the one where you are most likely to buy something from the person who made it, which for some people is the entire reason to go to a craft sale at all.

Planning around them from Crescentwood

The downtown pair, the Winnipeg Christmas Market and Crafted, are the ones that work without a car. From our house off Corydon Avenue the D19 Corydon route runs downtown to its terminal on Kennedy Street, and the RBC Convention Centre is about eight minutes on foot southeast from there; the 2026 transit fare is $3.45 in cash or $3.10 on peggo e-cash. Red River Exhibition Park is a drive. Sunset on the Third + Bird weekend is 4:39 p.m., so if you are doing two markets in a day, do the one that needs a drive first and the downtown one after dark.

Market weekends in late November are also when downtown hotels fill for other reasons, the Santa parade and the concert calendar among them. Our three-bedroom home in Crescentwood is about seven minutes from the convention centre by car and on a direct bus route; the Airbnb listing shows those dates.

Before you go: Market dates and venues move from year to year, and published listings disagree on the Christkindlmarkt weekend. Confirm with each organiser before you build a day around it.
