The Winnipeg Goldeyes play their 2027 home opener on Friday, May 14 at 7 p.m. at Blue Cross Park, against the Sioux City Explorers. The season itself starts a week earlier and a long way south, in Kansas City on May 7. Baseball is not the only professional sport downtown in summer, though: the Winnipeg Sea Bears play Canadian Elite Basketball League games a few blocks up Portage Avenue at Canada Life Centre. The two evenings are genuinely different, and the choice comes down to weather, money and how long you want to be out.

The 2027 Goldeyes schedule, date by date

The club announced a 102-game schedule in October 2026, with 51 of those games at Blue Cross Park. The road trip that opens it runs three games against the Monarchs in Kansas City and three against the RedHawks in Fargo. Then the team comes home for May 14.

Nine full weekends of home baseball are built into the schedule, and the Goldeyes have fireworks after every Friday night home game. Two dates stand out for visitors: the team is at home on Canada Day, July 1, and on Father's Day, Sunday June 20. The regular season ends with a six-game homestand against Lincoln from August 31 through September 5, and that last game is a Sunday afternoon, first pitch at 1 p.m. The touring Banana Ball exhibition also comes to Winnipeg in August, its first Canadian stop.

Blue Cross Park sits at One Portage Avenue East, just east of Main Street and next door to The Forks, and seats 7,461. The ballpark took the Blue Cross name in 2023. Professional baseball arrived in the city in 1954, when the first Goldeyes were a St. Louis Cardinals affiliate in the Northern League, and the 18-year-old Steve Carlton pitched here in 1963 on his way to the Hall of Fame. That team folded after 1964. The current one came back in 1994, won the Northern League in its first season, moved to the American Association in 2011 and won the league back to back in 2016 and 2017.

A Sea Bears night at Canada Life Centre

The Sea Bears are Winnipeg's Canadian Elite Basketball League team and they play at Canada Life Centre, 300 Portage Avenue, the downtown arena that opened in 2004 and also houses the Jets. The CEBL plays a short summer season that overlaps the first half of the Goldeyes' schedule. In 2026 the regular season ran May 9 to August 3, 24 games per team, with the playoffs from August 6 to 15; in past years it has started in the first half of May and finished in early August, so a June or July trip to Winnipeg will usually land on a home date. Winnipeg hosted the league's Championship Weekend in August 2025.

The club has 2027 season tickets on sale and lists single-game seats from $33 with taxes and fees included, or from $27 for season-ticket members. Entry is by mobile ticket only, so the phone you bought with is the phone you need at the door.

Cost, length and small children

What you are really buying with a Goldeyes ticket is flexibility. Fifty-one home dates across four months means that if the weather turns or a day runs long, there is another game tomorrow and probably one the day after. The Sea Bears play 24 games, half of them at home, inside a three-month window, so a particular Friday is the only Friday, and a sold-out date is simply gone.

Length cuts the other way. A basketball game is done inside two hours. A ballgame runs closer to three, longer if the innings go badly, and the end of a 7 p.m. Friday game plus fireworks puts you back on Portage Avenue near eleven. With a four-year-old, the Sunday 1 p.m. starts at the ballpark are the better call: daylight, a shorter wait for food, and an open concourse where a child who is finished watching can walk around without climbing over anybody.

May nights are cold and the ballpark has no roof

This is the difference most visitors underestimate. Blue Cross Park is open to the sky. On May 14 the sun does not set in Winnipeg until around nine o'clock, so a 7 p.m. first pitch starts in full daylight and ends in the dark, and the temperature falls into single digits once it does. Bring a jacket to a May or early-June game even when the afternoon was warm. June and July bring the other open-air risk, which is a thunderstorm and a delay with no indoor concourse to wait it out in.

Canada Life Centre has none of that. It is indoors and climate controlled, which is worth something on a 30-degree July afternoon and worth a great deal on a wet one. If your Winnipeg days are few and the forecast is ugly, basketball is the safer booking.

The D19 drops you at one venue, not the other

From Crescentwood and the Corydon strip, the D19 Corydon runs east to its terminal on Kennedy Street, just south of Portage Avenue. That terminal is a short walk from Canada Life Centre at 300 Portage, so for basketball the bus takes you essentially to the door. Blue Cross Park is at the far end of the same street: from Kennedy Street east to Main is about a fifteen-minute walk, and the ballpark is immediately past it. A one-way adult fare is $3.45 in cash or $3.10 with peggo e-cash.

Driving, the two are the same trip. Canada Life Centre is ten minutes and 3.9 km from our house in Crescentwood, and The Forks, which the ballpark backs onto, is also ten minutes and 3.9 km. Both venues mean paid downtown parking, so the bus is often the cheaper half of the evening.

Where to stay for the 2027 season

Our three-bedroom home in Crescentwood is ten minutes by car from both venues and on the D19's route into downtown. Corydon Avenue is about a ten-minute walk south of the house, which makes a pre-game dinner there and a bus downtown afterward a workable plan rather than a rushed one.

Friday fireworks nights, the Canada Day game on July 1 and the Banana Ball date in August are the ones that book out earliest, in the house and across the city, so pick your game before you pick your dates. The listing is on Airbnb.
