FortWhyte Alive visitor guide: bison trails, lakes, and transit access
FortWhyte Alive is a large urban nature site southwest of central Winnipeg with lakes, prairie zones, and year-round trail access. The site is known for bison viewing and bird activity.
Getting there
FortWhyte Alive lists two entrances: 1961 McCreary Road and 2505 McGillivray Boulevard. Winnipeg Transit stop 62044 is at the McGillivray-side visitor area.
Trail planning
The site recommends at least three hours if you want to cover a broad section of trails and stop at wildlife viewpoints. Short visits can focus on one loop plus the visitor centre.
Bison and bird viewing
FortWhyte reports a resident urban bison herd and seasonal migration activity for birders. Bring binoculars if you want longer-distance viewing from designated trail areas.
Preparation: Trail conditions change after rain and during shoulder seasons. Check the day's trail notes before you leave.
